Morning Dew Farm

Gather

Directions to Morning Dew Farm

There are 2 ways to get to the farm.

Option #1 is 15 minutes faster than Option #2 but has a steep hill on a well maintained gravel road. Put your car or minivan into low gear for the hill and you will be fine. Play loud music while doing this. I prefer the Grateful Dead but other bands may do. Willie Nelson or other old school country music should also work. Tom Petty is another excellent choice.

Options #2 is the best way to take if you have an RV or pop up camper or towing a trailer. Also take this option if you get nervous on steep hills or if there is snow or ice. Or if you don’t have access to good music.

Option #1
From Interstate 64 East (past Lexington)

  1. Take the Mountain Parkway East towards Campton/Hazard
  2. Take Exit 43 toward Campton/Hazard/Hwy 15
  3. Go down the hill and through the light. You are now on Highway 15. Drive 4.1 miles
  4. You will be passing Spencers Pawn and Ammo Shop, a yellow store on the left then some large rocks along these 4 miles. (Spencers Pawn Shop shows up on apple maps.)
  5. Take a left onto Hollons Fork Road (labeled road). This is a gravel road. Go up the big hill, then down the big hill. Keep going on this gravel road. The farm is the one with big barn (partly red) on the left. Pass the first gate then enter through the second gate.
    Marked with a farm sign.

Option #2.
From Interstate 64 East (past Lexington)

Take this road if you are afraid of going up a steep mountain gravel road.
Or have a camper or RV.

  1. Take the Mountain Parkway East towards Campton/Hazard
  2. Take Exit 43 toward Campton/Hazard/Hwy 15
  3. You will approach the town of Campton. Go straight through the first
    intersection/stoplight.
  4. Take a left at Elkins Road (by Dairy Queen).
  5. Take a right on Campton Baptist Road/Number 2491

Tents/Sleeping

Bring a tent, an RV, or pop up camper. RV campers can park along the main red barn. Pop up campers can park there also or along a smaller barn. Tent campers can set up along the front field or along the fence line. We can direct you.

We do have some room on the second floor of the barn if a few people want to set up there. We are in the process of building a cabin and we will set up heaters inside the unfinished cabin. Those who wish can set up their tent in there, as well.

Clothing and equipment

Entertainment

Bring your musical instruments, card games, puzzles, soccer balls, volleyball, frisbee or knitting needles.

We have a pond stocked with fish. Bring your fishing equipment and bait!

We have kayaks and a canoe if you want to paddle in the pond. We are all about safety so PLEASE ensure children are wearing life jackets and that there is at least one adult by the pond if children are in/on the water.

We’ll have a campfire so bring your roasting sticks and marshmallows.

We have wifi by the main barn and the fire pit unless you want to disconnect for the weekend.

We are 15 minutes from the eastern entrance of the spectacular Red River Gorge and hiking there is also an option.

Food/Cooking

We have a cooking/dining area with a propane grill and one attached burner, a large propane stove with 3 burners and a campfire with cooking grates. There is also a small microwave.

We have running water! Water has been checked and is safe to drink but it is well water and can have an iron taste. You may decide to bring your own water. We do have 2 large Brita water pitchers so you can just bring a reusable water bottle to refill from the pitchers. There is also a kitchen sink and counter by the dining area.

There are three 20×10 tents and picnic tables and chairs set up close to the campfire and the outdoor sink.

There are power outlets near the dining tents.

We have two big refridgerators and a smaller one if you need to store perishable items. But if you have lots of beer or other beverages, it is best to bring your own cooler as we can’t fit everybody’s drinks in there.

For the past five farm parties, friends brought their own food but we ended up sharing in an impromptu potluck.

Feel free to do what suits you best!

Toilets

There are two bathrooms on the second floor of the barn. Please be nice to the sewer system and flush only toilet paper down the toilet. We can’t stress this enough. All other products go in the wastebasket. There are no showers (yet. maybe next year)

Trash/Recycling

We don’t have these services at the farm so we end up having to transport these back home to Louisville.

We encourage everyone to use reusable plates and utensils when possible. Or compostable ones. You should be able to wash these in the kitchen sink. We will also ask for volunteers to bring home a bag of trash or recycling.

Donate Supplies?

If you are so inclined, we can always use these items for the parties:
